Filing deadlines resident income tax return - assessment year 2026

It’s that time of the year again! As of 28 April 2026, Tax-on-Web (MyMinFin) is officially open, allowing you to submit your return electronically.
As a Belgian tax resident, living and working in Belgium, you are required to file a personal income tax return with the Belgian tax authorities. In this return, you report your personal details and income so that the Belgian tax authorities can calculate your final tax liability.
The return you file this year relates to income year 2025. Individuals who moved to Belgium during 2025 and became tax residents must file a Belgian tax return for the first time this year.
Below is an overview of the applicable filing deadlines. These vary depending on:
- the method of filing (paper or electronic), and
- whether specific types of income are included
Unlike in the past, the filing deadline no longer depends on who submits the return (yourself or a tax advisor).
Paper filing
If you are filing a return in Belgium for the first time, the Belgian tax authorities will in principle send you a paper form by post during the month of May. You will recognize it by the brown envelope.

Did you not receive a form? Then you are required to request one yourself from your local tax office. We recommend doing so at the beginning of June to ensure sufficient time to file your return on time.
The deadline for submitting a paper return is 30 June 2026.
Electronic filing (Tax-on-Web)
You can also submit your return electronically via Tax-on-Web (MyMinFin). As mentioned above, this application has been open since 28 April 2026.
For electronic filing, the deadline is 15 July 2026.
You can log in easily via MyMinFin using your e-ID or the itsme app.
Specific situations – extended deadline
If your return includes specific types of income and you submit it electronically, an extended deadline applies until 16 October 2026.
This applies if:
- your return includes self-employment income or foreign professional income;
- you are reporting for the first time one or more of the following:
- foreign real estate
- alimony payment received from or paid to a person in a foreign country
- a loan concluded abroad
- a legal structure
- the application of the special tax regime for inbound taxpayers or researchers
Please note: if you fall into one of these situations but submit your return on paper, the deadline of 30 June 2026 still applies.
Pre-completed tax return
The Belgian tax authorities increasingly send a pre-completed tax return, based on available data.
If you receive a pre-completed tax return:
- Correct and complete? Then no action is required.
- Incorrect or incomplete? Then you must amend it:
- online via MyMinFin: no later than 15 July 2026
- on paper (if received by post): no later than 30 June 2026
